Who are HFW
Help for Wildlife is a 24 hour state-wide wildlife emergency service. A community based, voluntary, not for profit, non-political, and registered charity, Help for Wildlife was established in 1995 by Denise Garratt. Help for Wildlife strives to encourage a greater understanding and respect for the needs of wildlife, whilst actively seeking solutions to wildlife problems. Help for Wildlife’s emergency phone service assists members of the public who seek advice and information about matters relating to wildlife. All operators are highly trained and are familiar with emergency situations. Help for Wildlife is the largest single provider of wildlife help within Victoria, handling over 40,000 calls annually. Establishing the first Victorian road signs to advise motorists of our direct 24 hour wildlife emergency phone number, Help for Wildlife’s road signs have been instrumental in saving many wildlife lives and in minimising a great deal of suffering for injured wildlife. There are currently over 400 road signs erected throughout the greater part of Victoria, with expansion of the program continuously being implemented. These road signs also raise important public awareness about wildlife safety. Help for Wildlife has a deep commitment to the welfare of Australian Native Wildlife and to the education of the general public. We support, wherever possible, those in the community who rehabilitate and care for sick, injured, orphaned and distressed wildlife.
